GCSE Media Studies:
Magazine production – Getting ready to produce in September!
The following tasks should have been completed in July:
ü Questionnaires
results and analysis (with graphs)
ü Genre
moodboard of images with an analysis of themes
ü Genre
mindmap – Word association with your chosen genre
ü Title
shortlist – Pick three words from your mindmap to form your title shortlist:
Why would they be a good title? Use the Media keyword “connotation” in your
answer
ü Once
selected a title, go on Dafont.com and test out 3 fonts suitable for a masthead
– Explain why each one might suit your chosen genre
The following tasks need to be completed over the summer
holidays (You will be glad you got it out the way!) This can be blogged if you
feel more comfortable doing it that way.
ü Create a “character”
for your front cover – What have they done that has resulted in a cover story?
Who will you get to play them in your photoshoot? What will they wear? Could
they be holding any props?
ü Pick your
location: In the summer you will have more freedom to go on a location hunt! Be
brave and get out there.
ü Location
risk assessment: Take pictures of up to 3 different locations – explaining any
risks or factors that need be taken into consideration.
ü The photoshoot:
Phones can be used if you keep the camera
still. Minimum of 20 photos for each
picture you actually need. Try different poses, different lighting, different
props. (Lighting will become a lot trickier in September, and your ‘willing
actors’ may have other commitments once year 11 starts!) Keep all originals for
your folder.
ü Your
research will tell you how many pictures your magazine will have: Many will
have 1 photo for the front page, but gossip mags and mags aimed at younger
people will have more than 1 main image on the cover. Double page spreads may
use just 1 big picture or a selection of smaller pics, always look to your
research mags!
Reply here if any questions!! Mr H,
Have a super summer :-D
