Task 3: Propp's character types
Now we have gone through Propp's theory about character types in lesson, we will see whether this theory holds true when it comes to the movies!
You are going to think of a film that you believe has some really good examples of each of Propp's character types.
You are going to think of a film that you believe has some really good examples of each of Propp's character types.
In a new post you will detail what Propp's character types are and then you will give your example from your chosen film. Try and find a picture to include so we know who you are talking about.
You must include:
- Hero
- Villain
- False hero
- Helper
- Donor
- Princess
Looking forward to see what you come up with!
Task 2: Todorov
You should have prepared a well-known story, be it a film, book, game or nursery rhyme, that fits Todorov's narrative structure.
Your next blog post will be to talk through how your story fits each stage of Todorov's structure. Try to find a picture from the internet that illustrates what is happening at each stage.
A reminder:
1. Equilibrium - Life is just right... Here, the main characters' life is balanced and normal. There have been no disruptions to the main character's life... yet.
2. Disruption - A problem disrupts... The main character's life has suddenly been disrupted, shattering their previous equilibrium
3. Recognition - The main character realises... The main character now begins to realise their situation has changed - and not for the better
4. Repair - Repairing the situation begins... The main character now sets out to 'right the wrongs' and repair their situation, so that life can be as good as it was originally (The equilibrium in stage 1!)
5. New Equlibrium - The character has gained a NEW equilibrium... The main character has worked through the problems and as a result have gained back their equilibrium. However - they have GROWN from their experience. Life is now BETTER than it was at the beginning of the narrative.
